Booking lead time
Awaiting confirmation from the client: How far ahead do seasonal changeovers usually need to be booked?
Best time to book
Before the first freeze and before the first warm week. Both changeover windows get busy across Durham Region at once.
What it costs
Call for a quote. Price depends on wheel count, wheel size, and whether the tires are already on rims.

What the visit includes

  • All four wheels removed and the seasonal set fitted in their place
  • Tire pressures set to the figure on your door placard, checked cold
  • Lug nuts torqued to the manufacturer specification in a star pattern
  • A look at tread depth and uneven wear on the set coming off
  • The set coming off stacked and left where you want them

What to have ready

  • The other set of tires, and whether they are loose or already on rims
  • The wheel lock key if your vehicle has locking nuts
  • A level spot to park — a sloped driveway is not safe to jack on

When should winter tires go on in Durham Region?

The usual rule is seven degrees, not the first snowfall. Below roughly seven degrees the rubber in an all-season tire stiffens and stops gripping properly, which is why the first cold rain of the season causes as many incidents as the first snow. Around Oshawa and Whitby that threshold typically arrives in late October or early November. Waiting for snow means booking in the same week as everyone else, and it means driving the run-up to that week on tires that have already stopped working properly.

Do tires need to come off the rims for a seasonal change?

Not if you have a second set of rims, which is what makes a driveway changeover quick — the whole wheel comes off and the other wheel goes on. If both sets share one set of rims, each tire has to be unmounted from the rim and the other mounted in its place, which needs a tire machine rather than a jack and a wrench. Ask when you call and we will tell you which of those your vehicle needs.

Can a tire change be done in a condo or workplace parking lot?

Usually yes, and it is a large part of what we do — a changeover takes a single parking space and does not need power. What it does need is level ground, because a vehicle on a jack on a slope is genuinely dangerous. Underground and multi-level garages are worth checking first: some buildings prohibit vehicle work entirely, and low clearance can be a problem for the van rather than for the car.

Common questions

How long does a seasonal tire changeover take?

A four-wheel changeover on a vehicle with a second set of rims is straightforward work that happens in your driveway while you carry on with your day. Tires that have to be unmounted and remounted on the same rims take longer. Call Jang Mobile Tire Service on 437-788-3377 and we will tell you which applies to your vehicle.

Do I need to be home during a tire change?

Not necessarily. If the vehicle is accessible, the keys are available, and the other set of tires is somewhere we can reach, a driveway changeover can be done while you are out. Jang Mobile Tire Service arranges this in advance rather than by default, so call 437-788-3377 and say what suits you.

What should I do with the tires that come off?

They need somewhere dry, out of direct sunlight, and away from anything running an electric motor, because ozone degrades rubber. Stacked flat in a garage or shed is fine for a season. Jang Mobile Tire Service leaves the set you are not using wherever you want them on the property, stacked rather than left loose across a driveway.
